I'm Ready for Turkey Day!

Well, not really. But just look what I found at a thrift store last week --this wonderful vintage turkey platter and plate. Oh, how I wish they had a few more plates! Oh well, c'est la vie. They're here in the kitchen by the "bird wall," for the moment, but I may move them to the dining room as Thanksgiving approaches.

I also found four of these little Johnson Bros. "Tulip Time" saucers, for 75 cents! Aren't they adorable? I know, I'm losing it, right? I'm sure you all think I'm nuts, but I just love these little things!

Here's my other find -- a beautiful, pink flowered soup bowl (?), made in Germany. It's just the right color to find a home in the dining room at Little Red House.

OK, that's it, I promise no more dishes. For at least a day or two...

  1. Hi Mary,

Love the dishes! I also love that you post every day first thing in the morning! I always read your blog with my coffee before the kids get up. Did the dishes come from Second Chance? I went to a beautiful estate sale last weekend on Liberty Corner Rd. right by Moorland Farm. Did you go?

  2. Oh, Annie, I'm kicking myself for not going to that! I passed it on my way back from getting my hair cut, but didn't stop! Aaargh! the plates came from a shop in Madison.

  4. Mary,
We went kind of late (1:30) so it seemed picked over. I wish I had gone first thing! I love seeing houses like that even if I dont find anything to buy. It was step back in time, as I think the house had not been touched in quite awhile. The barn was open too and I wish I had bought some large old picture frames. Hannah said they looked like junk so I walked away! There were a lot of dishes though. And silverware--I thought of you! Sorry I shouldnt tell you this....

My grandmother had one and I am not sure what happened to it. One day I know I will "discover one!" You'll know it when I do, you'll be able to hear me shouting for joy!
